Planning and Production

Planning documentation:

Our group has a Google drive setup where all our planning documentation is placed. The link is here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B9bbNdqZDPVMOEZZblN1a1ZLWG8

As of 11/2/16 there is currently documents with interview questions, two treatments, and research documents to further our knowledge about the vinyl resurgance.

Plan:

Wednesday 11th February 2016: 15:00 - Group visit to various record stores around Sheffield. We will begin a shot list, sound list and confirm a date and time for the filming of the shops and interviews.

This session went ahead as planned, we visited Record Junkee, Vinyl Demand and LP Record Store. We talked to all the shop owners and they agreed to do an interview and allow us to record cutaway shots next week.

Tuesday 16th February 2016: Book out equipment, and record interview at Record Junkee of the manager. We will also collect cutaway shots.

We booked out the equipment as planned, however Record Junkee sadly cancelled at the last minute as the admitted they were moving shops and it wouldn't be convenient to film.

Wednesday 17th February 2016: 17:00 Record interview with Andrew Plaxton (Manager of Vinyl Demand) and record cutaway shots of Vinyl Demand.

Session took place as planned. The interview went very well and I recorded some good cutaway shots. However, it was dark outside so I will record some establishing shots of the shop tomorrow.

Thursday 18th February 2016: 15:00 Record interview with Mark Richardson (Manager of LP Record Store) and record cutaway shots at LP Record Store.

I recorded four establishing shots of Vinyl Demand as I was on my way to this recording session. At LP Record Store we got a fantastic interview, cutaways and some really excellent slider shots of the shop.

Friday 19th February 2016: Josh will import the clips recorded and as a group we will rebook the equipment out for the weekend.

Everything went to plan. Josh imported the video files on to ISIS and Avid Media Composer and began to rename each clip.

Saturday 20th February 2016: Interview with Rodger Baker, who has been collecting vinyl for 30 years.

We originally wanted to film the interview at Rodger's apartment so we could show his huge collection, however he said at the last minute that it was too small for that and asked if we could meet at another location. Thankfully Phil (Producer) got in contact with a bar called The Tramshed which is around the corner from Rodger's flat. The bar has an upstairs gallery where some of Rodger's photographs are being shown. The owner of the bar instantly knew who Rodger was and thankfully  said we could use the upstairs of her bar to film the interview and cutaways of some of Rodger's vinyl's which he was bringing with him. The bar owner allowed us to come in and film at 2:00, she didn't open until 4:00 so we had 2 hours. We recorded a fantastic interview with Rodger and I recorded some great cutaway shots of his favorite vinyls and some photographs of bands he had brought with him.

Sunday 21st February 2016: Interview with Josh Powesland, a young 20 year old collector of vinyl.

Session didn't take place. Sadly Josh didn't get back to Phil about doing the interview. It was important for us that we got a young collectors perspective in the documentary and it was all about the new youth movement with vinyl.

Saturday 27th February 2016: Record cutaways of Rodger Bakers collection at his flat.

Got pushed back to Saturday instead of Thursday but went as planned. Poor lighting but got a few shots of his collection.

Monday 29th February 2016: Josh set to finish edit

Disappointing to find out Josh hadn't started the edit and only gave himself 24 hours to do it.

Wednesday-Thursday: Start the edit again

Me and Phil re-edited the entire documentary as Josh didn't give himself enough time and it wasn't how the group had envisioned it.
